EU is running out of time to make the internet a safer place for children

Today, as we celebrate Safer Internet Day across Europe and beyond, we must acknowledge that we are facing a race against time as legislators when it comes to providing a safer internet for kids. The Internet offers a tremendous wealth of opportunities for children and has proven an essential tool in young people’s lives. But with that, it has also created unprecedented social distortions and challenges that put children’s rights and children’s health in jeopardy.

Every child counts

It is certain that children – yet once again – are those paying the highest toll in this conflict. The latest figures put the number of casualties in Gaza at over 10.000 people, out of which 4000 children. This war has become a war on children and we cannot be complicit in this indiscriminate slaughter of children! We are facing a risk of having a lost generation in Gaza and the horrors and unprecedented violence suffered by all children in Israel and Gaza are likely to have a major negative impact in their development in life. We need to put a stop to this now before it is too late.
